You've reached the portfolio of Benn Meyers. This site outlines some of the code and design I have worked on. The ideas presented here are those I've picked up from my own innovation and other many sources in my experiences doing web design and development.
General:
I first develop on a Mac in Firefox with Firebug and the Web Developers Toolbar enabled. I code everything by hand, but professionally I use Adobe Dreamweaver to assist me. I then spend some time in other browsers checking to see if the code I have made works. There are several methods of setting styles for individual browsers, but I prefer to not go that route if possible. I have however discovered the necessity for the !important tag and browser-specific styles.
When I create new pages, script or styles, I have some general guidelines I follow.
Practices followed:
- I use camelCase for my new names
-
When I name something, I follow this logic:Fuction_elementName[_color][_width][.extension]
Designs:
These are only some of the designs and websites I've worked on and created, mouse over each design for a description.
Professional Projects
Minted.com Holiday Home - The design was provided by the minted designer and I made the CSS and HTML for the new home page. I used Yahoo! grids and some techniques I came up with.
Minted.com Holiday Popover - The Holiday project required a new popover for the search results page. I made the HTML and CSS for it to match the design mock and requests of product people.
Vimo.com Dr Reports - These are in a flow of designed HTML, CSS, and Javascript SMARTY templates. The report can be gotten to by going through the Dr. Details and asking for a report.
Vimo.com Carrier/Plan Profiles - The idea was to give the customer profiles on the different Plans and Carriers in their area. The pages were built using SMARTY templates to insert CMS data.
RealtyTrac.com Property Search Results - I negotiated feasability with the programmers, worked with the marketing team and went directly to the designers to give feedback.
ForeclosurePulse is a site I did from January to February of 2006 for RealtyTrac.com. I did the wireframe, design, CSS and HTML for the site and meshed with the back-end into the database.
Personal Projects
jpMonkey is a website promoting environmentally friendly grocery bags. I mirrored her real-world products and designed and programmed a site for the sale of the bags.
Platinum Weddings by Kerrie is a site for Kerrie to advertise herself and show demos of her work. I made several design and logo concepts based on my chosen color schemes then made the website.
The the Underhill wedding is a website I made for Kerrie and Greg to give them an online presence for their beautiful wedding. It features a guestbook, biographies and a photo album.
The Help Dress You is a website I made the base HTML and CSS for into a table-less and symantic form. I then passed on the HTML to the owner, who wanted to tinker with doing HTML herself.
CCIndex was a project for someone who wanted to document all the periodicals and books in his library (10k+), so hired me to make the initial search engine and website for him.
The Art of Japan was a project giving a high level understanding on many of the different forms of japanese art. The site earned the team a gold medal for education and instruction.
Doctor Mohler wanted a web presence, so in 2001 he hired me to create a website. The site has been modified but the base HTML and color scheme I used has remained intact.
